Welcome back to Saffron’s Cauldron!

Welcome back to Saffron’s Cauldron! Saffron’s Cauldron is a monthly article that discusses spells and information that can be used in doing spell work. I’ll be keeping you posted on new and old spells, Rituals that you can use for the upcoming Sabbaths, loads of information pertaining to spell work, charms and tools that you can use in your daily life.

This month we come into Lammas also called Lughnasadh, for the Celtic deity Lugh it was named for. According to Celtic legend, Lugh decreed that a commemorative feast be held each year at the beginning of the harvest season to honor his foster mother, Tailtiu.

More information about Lammas can be found in the archive files under the August 2003 in Saffron’s Cauldron.

This month I would like to spend some time talking about making your own ritual. This will be PART ONE of a series on Creating Spells and Rituals.

CREATING SPELLS AND RITUALS
PART ONE

We are all such diverse people that it’s often difficult to integrate a ritual or spell we find in a book or handed down as our beliefs are so varied. You will also find that as you study, learn and practice different rituals and spells that the spells and rituals you create for yourself are much more powerful. This is because the intent of the spell or ritual has a more powerful energy having been created by the one who will use it. Because the power of the spell or ritual increases if done by the person who requires it… then it also makes sense if that same person were to create the spell or ritual that it would be even more powerful. The magic therefore lies within the one who desires an outcome and if that desire is true and there is passion in it then the power of energies or magic increase even more. (Keeping in mind that the universe has the last say and the laws of Wicca that abide)

Creating a spell or ritual takes some study you need to understand the different parts of a spell or ritual and how to use them. There are many books on the subject and many different views on how to accomplish this so my views are just one of many you can use. This month we will talk about the use of Time in a spell or ritual. Time has always been in integral part of spell casting. The power that time lends spells can be as subtle as the day of the week or as powerful as the effect of a Full Moon. Two people performing the same spell can get entirely different results based on the time of day or phase of the moon. There are many aspects to time to consider. The time of day, day of the week, time of year and the most well known aspect is the Moon phase. You may have been given a spell that is tried and true and has produced results for many but because the Moon phase is incorrect or the spell was done in the morning as opposed to nighttime it fails miserable for you. It is very important to coordinate the correct time frame to work a specific spell.

MOON PHASES

The phase of the Moon is probably the one aspect that has the most effect on your spells or rituals. The moon controls the tides, how we feel and the weather. Performing a spell or ritual in the proper Moon phase will greatly increase (or decrease) its effectiveness.

The New Moon and Waxing Moon are about new beginnings, plans or relationships. Spells or Rituals about growth, prosperity or increasing something are best done at this time of the Moon.

The Full Moon is best used when you want to make dramatic changes in your life or you need help with making an important choice. The Full Moon is best used for good luck, requests for clarity or any type of divination spells and rituals.

The Waning Moon is best used for rituals and spells where you want to banish something. Binding spells, spells or rituals to reclaim health and get rid of illness, or bad habits are best done at this time.

The Dark Moon is not at time for magic. It is always best that magic be avoided at this time. It is however a good time to prepare for the coming lunar event and mediate on what will be needed in the days to come for other spells or rituals.

SEASONS

Certain seasons make spells and rituals flow more easily and work better than others. While any minor spells would probably not be affected much by the season… the more intense and important rituals or spells should be done according to the season for best results.

Spring is about new beginnings and new growth. New relationships or new venture type spells and rituals are best done at this time.

Summer is a powerful time of year when energies are high and therefore it makes a great time to celebrate success and work spells or rituals for gain and desires. It’s also a good time to work on health issues.

Autumn is about clearing out those cobwebs in the closet. It’s a good time for spells or rituals that help you with clarity and dispelling the unwanted. Spells and rituals that help you break down the barriers and breakthrough to a new life. It is also a good time for spells and rituals about harvest and preserving the good in your life.

Winter is a time for meditation and a good time for spells and rituals that help you release negativity and make room for the new growth that spring will bring.

DAY OF THE WEEK

The day of the week is much easier to wait for than a Season and often times is used faithfully in spell work or Ritual because of this.

Monday relates to the Moon, fertility, intuition and healing energies
Tuesday relates to Mars, strength, action, activity and courage
Wednesday related to Mercury, good communication, study and is a good travel day
(physical or astral)
Thursday relates to Jupiter, protection, luck and fortune
Friday relates to Venus, love, marriage and relationship issues
Saturday relates to Saturn, clarity, clearing obstacles, cleansing and financial gains
Sunday relates to the Sun, good health, prosperity and success

TIME OF DAY

While many consider the time of day to be an optional use in spell and ritual work, it does have some bearing on the intensity of it. You will find the more intense spell and ritual casters will use the time of day and factor it into the spell or ritual as they tend to plan ahead.

Dawn and Morning is about new beginnings, inspiration and imagination
Noon is about power, passion, courage, health and sexuality
Dusk –is about love, intuition and balancing of emotions
Night is about banishing, luck and wish spells

Its easy to see how combining the proper time, day, season and moon can easily affect a spell or ritual and make it highly successful or render it completely useless. In fact working a spell or ritual out of sync with these aspects can actually cause damage rather than the good you may be seeking. Creating a spell or ritual of your own can be a lengthy process, but done properly it will surely be a meaningful one as well.

Next month I will take you down another path that will help you in learning how to create your own Spell or Ritual. In the meantime, practice some spells or rituals you have using the different aspects of time related above to see how it affects your work.

Until next month, I wish you all a glorious summers end!

Blessings to you and yours!
Saffron
